On Wednesday, UAE’s Lunar exploration firm iSpace announced that it will transport an unmanned rover to the Moon next year, as the Gulf state seeks to expand its space sector and to grab more opportunities.
The UAE- mainly made up of seven emirates involving the capital Abu Dhabi and freewheeling Dubai, declared in September 2020. It planned to launch the “Rashid” rover most probably by 2024.
The firm said that- the rover will be transported to the Moon on iSpace’s lunar lander” with the decided mission in 2022, it was stated by the Japanese firm in a statement.
The statement added- “iSpace will deliver Emirates lunar mission’s Rashid’s rover to the Moon offered wired communication and power during the cruise phase. And also engage in wireless communication on the lunar surface”.
As we all know, the United Arab Emirates is a newcomer to the world of space exploration and thinking to make its mark quickly.
Back in September 2019, the oil-rich country and high-end infrastructure nation sent the first Emirati into space as part of a three-member crew. But it blasted off on a Soyuz rocket from Kazakhstan which was sent for an eight-day mission.
Later in February 2020, the “hope” probe successfully entered the orbit of Mars on a journey that was beginning to reveal the secrets of martian weather. It aims to make history the Arab world’s first-ever interplanetary mission.
Back in time!
iSpace of UAE was founded in 2010. It was decided to use Elon Musk’s SpaceX (falcon 9) rocket for its mission to launch a lander in 2022. It has been decided to blast off the rocket Florida in the United States.
One of Dubai’s rural Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum has said in a statement that the Emirati-maid rover will cover areas not yet reached in early exploration missions by others.
He also added that it is part of the nation’s new strategy to build brand new knowledge-based and scientific capabilities and raise the existing skills.
Moreover, this project marks another first for the nation. As it is the first-ever trip to the moon by an Arab country in decades and more.
Lastly, another ambitious plan of UAE is that the 10-kilogram rover will be an integral part of efforts to build the first-ever settlement on Mars in 2117, and they are eager to achieve it in the coming future.
