Microsoft in talks to buy Discord for more than $10 billion

On 23 March 2021, one of the renowned tech firms “Microsoft Corp.” is in discussions, and to purchase Discord Inc for more than $10 billion that is roughly around Rs 72,400 crores, said by the people familiar with the matter. 

Microsoft is one of the companies, which is always in the top news, and headlines of the business news, whether it’s new market strategies, expansion, innovations, or taking up new businesses for strengthening its firm in the long run. Discord has reached out to potential buyers and Microsoft is ready to be among them. One individual said that he was more likely to go public than to sell himself.

As of December 2020, it was valued at $7 billion, and now the news says that Microsoft may be the one to purchase it. 

Also, the manufacturer Xbox has been looking to expand its video game services with a $7.5 billion acquisition of ZeniMax Media last year. It is considered one of the biggest gaming acquisitions ever before. 

The gaming market experienced its ultimate push during global lockdown, as people remained at their homes, and turned to gaming for entertainment, spending time during the period. 

Finally, with the strong gaming industry, Microsoft has also sought to own mass social media platforms to strengthen its market position. As its last major social agreement was the purchase of Linkedin for $26.2 billion in 2016. And on the other hand, while it failed its bid for a short TikTok video app active Americans in September 2020. And updates tell Microsoft is showing interest in purchasing another popular social media platform Pinterest Inc.
