Interventional cardiologist José Eduardo Sousa, MD, PhD, who helped revolutionize the treatment of coronary artery disease with drug-eluting stents, died Sunday in Brazil at the age of 88.

Sousa became born January 30, 1934 in Pedreiras, Brazil and executed his scientific level at the Federal College of Pernambuco in Brazil in 1958, in step with the Brazilian Academy of Treatment.
