Well, every year Good Friday is celebrated before Easter and this year it is on 2nd April. As per the Church’s Lunar calendar, the first Sunday after Paschal Full Moon which is on 4th April in this year, Easter is celebrated.
On this day, Christians commemorate Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. This is a day of grief, penance, and fasting for Christians globally. This day is also known as Black Friday for the same reason. However, Good Friday aka Holy Friday marks the ending of Lent which is a 40-day fasting period for Christians.
Historical importance
Good Friday is all about the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. As per the report on this day, Christ was arrested and executed. Notably, Good Friday is considered a holy day because on this day Jesus Christ sacrificed his life while suffering for the sins of people. Because of this gesture humanity has got a fresh beginning and their sins were dismissed. This aforementioned crucifixion took place around AD 30 or AD 33.
Most people are confused that if such a sad history is behind then why it is called Good Friday? As per the belief, the term is actually derived from the words God’s Friday. On the other hand, there is another group of people who believe that ‘Good’ stands for Holy, and for this reason, the day is also called Holy Friday.
Significance
On Friday, though Jesus Christ was crucified, this was on Easter that the son of God resurrected, as per Bible. Further, this signifies that good always wins over and the fact that he went through many sufferings for the sins of humanity shows how much he loved everyone.
