On Wednesday, Alphabet’s Google mentioned that they have signed deals with several Italian publishers in order to provide them with access to some of the content present on the US tech giant’s Showcase news platform.
It is Google News Showcase which is a global vehicle that pays the new publishers for their content and innovative service which will permit the partnering publishers in curating content and in providing adequate access to the paywalled stories for the users.
This contract was signed between many Italian publishers that involve RCS Mediagroup, that highlights regular Corriere Della Sera along with other popular sports daily Gazzetta Dello Sport, the publisher of the financial daily Il Sole 24 ore, Caltagironeeditore, which owns Il Messaggero, and Monrif, which publishes local papers such as Il Giorno and La Nazione. Until now, around 13 Italian editorial firms have now finalized deals with Google. This will be giving the user access to content from 76 national and local papers. Currently, no financial info on the contract is disclosed.
