In a recent blog post, Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai said the certificate courses are part of the company’s efforts to help workers or employees to upskill to high-demand careers in the digital marketplace. It has opened up enrollment for its upcoming career certificate programs and declared new tools and resources for people, specifically job seekers.
The enrollment has currently opened in the areas of data and analytics, user experience (UX) design, and project management. The interesting part is Google is launching a new Associate Android Developer Certification course that aims to qualify students for entry-level jobs in Android Development.
Sundar Pichai wrote- “with more businesses embracing digital ways of working and operating activities, it’s estimated that 5 % of all employees will need reskilling by 2025. As US job growth returns with more people getting vaccinated, we are committed to ensuring that all Americans have the skills they need to benefit from greater economic opportunity”. He added, today we are announcing new efforts including opening up enrollment for our new career certificates, expanding our employer consortium, and introducing new tools to refurbish the job search.
Moreover, it is planning to offer around 100,000 scholarships for its career certificates program that will be distributed via non-profits, other community organizations, workforce development boards, and so on. In 2017, Google claims to offer support to around 6 million Americans by training them in digital skills and nearly 170,000 Americans have gotten new employment since its launch.
Meanwhile, it expanded the consortium, and now it includes around 130 companies namely newcomers Anthem, Bayer, Deloitte, SAP, Better.com, Google, and Verizon. All these companies will hire interns of its certificate program, along with Accenture, Infosys, Zenify, SiriusXM+, Walmart, and Pandora.
Lastly, Pichai wrote- “Now when you search for “no degree jobs” in the US, you will see a new job carousel highlighting relevant opportunities near you”. He added- “You can also filter by education and experience requirements and there will be new labels on positions that do not mention any sort of degree in their job needs. Google is also working with other job portals such as GlasSdoor, LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter, Snagajob, and CareerBuilder.
This step is taken to empower youth and people to have better opportunities and help them to grow according to the market needs in several technological worlds.
