Atlan bags $16 million in funding led by Insight Partners

The data collaboration workspace startup Atlan has said that it recently raised 16 million dollars in a series A financing round. It was led by venture capital and private equity firm, Insight Ventures.

Other than this the existing investors include Sequoia Capital India’s Surge, and Water ridge Ventures.

In addition angel investors also participated in the round which involved Bob Muglia, former CEO of Snowflake, Bob Moore and Jake Stein, founders of Stitch, Auren Hoffman, founder of Safegraph and Liveramp, and Akshay Kothari, COO of Notion.

The company is like a GitHub for engineering teams full stop. Its data collaboration platform creates a unified Discovery for a business or companies’ data assets and helps them collaborate seamlessly across the data stack through integrations with tools like SLACK data warehouses like Snowflake redshift BI tools like Looker and more.

Meanwhile the co-founder of the company Prukalpa Sankar said- ““Today, data assets are not just tables, but code, models, BI dashboards, and pipelines”. He added- “At Atlan, we are reimagining the human experience with data — why can’t data assets be shared as easily as sharing a link on Google Docs, or if Google Analytics can tell you usage on a website, why can’t we do the same for our data?”

The company stated that the raised proceeds will be used to expand its current team to strengthen its product marketing teams and engineering in India. With this year it is also planning to double its team strength.

The data suggest that the company solution was incubated across 200 data projects which involves India’s national data platform- DISHA. Since its commencement the company has grown tremendously and reported 16 X growth within the last two quarters.

Coming to its clients then its top clients involve Unilever and Delhivery.

The managing director of Insight Teddie Wardi will join the company as Atlan’s board of directors. He added further- “As the modern data stack becomes mainstream, a collaborative layer that acts as a glue across a variety of tools like Snowflake, Databricks, BI tools, and AI/ML applications, is becoming a necessity”.

Lastly, Atlan was a part of the third cohort of Sequoia’s Surge programme and had Ratan Tata and Rajan Anandan as its advisors.
