Amazon launching palm-scanning payment system for Whole Foods stores

Currently, Amazon is on the verge of expanding the palm –scanning payment system for the whole foods store in Seattle, this was announced by the company on Wednesday, as the first of many planned rollouts to other locations.

Amazon One debuted in September and is now used at dozen Amazon physical stores. This permits the shoppers to make payment for those items by placing their palms over and scanning the device. However, for the first time, the shoppers need to make use of the kiosk which where they can insert the credit card for linking it with their palm print. After this, the shoppers are permitted to make simple payments by just holding their hands over the kiosk.

Amazon One is now one of the distinct for the company’s Just Walk Out technology that allows shoppers for picking up the items and even walk out of the store without being through a checkout line. Moreover, the two technologies can perform together, and Amazon employees them both at its cashier-less Amazon Go stores.

Initially, Amazon will be rolling out Amazon One at the Whole Foods in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood which is not far from the company’s headquarters before the launch of the system at seven Seattle-area Whole Foods in the coming months.

However, the Palm-scanning technology might be offered with a single payment option while participating in Whole Foods Stores, Amazon mentioned that it won’t impact store employees’ job responsibilities.

In 2017, Amazon acquired the grocery chain which just more than $13 billion. Amazon mentioned that it is now hoping to sell the palm scanning technology to other companies like retailers, stadiums, and office buildings. In last September, Amazon mentioned that it was in “active discussion with several potential customers.”

It was quite unclear that whether Amazon has signed any kind of agreement with the third parties interested in using the system. The company mentioned that thousands of people will have signed up for using it at Amazon stores.

Currently, Amazon has tried to expand as well as validate palm-scanning technology which is a form of payment, privacy, and security experts. They have also raised concerns about the danger of shoppers handing around the biometric data of the companies.

Amazon has now maintained that it has currently designed the system to be highly secured and it is considered palm-scanning technology with over private than other biometric alternatives like facial recognition.
