Indian Top Minister Narendra Modi has invited Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Bangladeshi Top Minister Sheikh Hasina to support his swearing-in ceremony scheduled on Saturday (June 8). Wickremesinghe and Hasina each permitted the invitation extended by PM Modi.

Following the announcement of the election outcomes of India’s 18th Lok Sabha elections on June 4 that Modi-led NDA won, the highest minister will proceed as the caretaker PM till the brand new executive is sworn in.

In a phone call on June 5, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe had congratulated  Indian Top Minister Narendra Modi on the BJP-led NDA’s electoral triumph.

PM Modi thanked President Wickremesinghe by writing, “Thanks for your call and warmth desires, President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Sri Lanka is the largest associate in our Neighbourhood First coverage. India is proud to be a actual associate for Sri Lanka. I peep forward to realising our joint imaginative and prescient of enhancing connectivity in all its dimensions.”

PM Modi moreover extended an invitation to Bangladeshi Top Minister Sheikh Hasina following their telephonic conversation.

2014, 2019 invitations

At some stage in PM Modi’s 2014 oath ceremony, all SAARC heads of utter were invited. In 2019, alongside Mauritius and Kyrgyzstan, all BIMSTEC international locations were invited. Beforehand, President Wickremesinghe visited India on July 21, 2023, at the invitation of PM Modi.
